Yesterday (Friday 8 August), two of my roommates (Saskia from Pennsylvania and Clara from Barcelona) and two of our other classmates (Fahed from Iraq and Miroslav from the Czech Republic) went to Tilburg to visit the Koningshoven Brauwerij, a Trappist Brewery maintained solely by the monastery on the grounds. The official website is here and it has some beautiful pictures of the grounds and more information.
Tilburg is about an hour away from Utrecht by train and we took the bus then to the brewery.
Our guided tour was a nice exercise in listening to Dutch, so we chalked this up to an extracurricular educational activity! Can’t really beat that when you’re learning about beer in Dutch!
The brewery is the only true trappist brewery in the Netherlands. All others are in Belgium. The beers brewed here include the Wit (White), Dubbel, Tripel, Quadrupel, Bockbier, and Blond.
Don’t forget to check the Flickr photostream for more pictures from the day. A shout-out to Jon Whitaker for his endless beer knowledge and pointing us in the direction of this brewery as an excursion! It was a really fun day.
Doei!

Looks like a blast! Keep the pictures coming. I am glad your bike is back on track. Isn’t the international student dorm idea awesome? Take care. I miss you friend!
